Creepy indeed. Your post reminded me of a short-lived British mystery tv series on Britbox that centered around a death photographer. Before then, I never knew about this once-popular practice. Thanks for being so informative.

Even stranger in Victorian times, when infant mortality was very high, if a child died, the next child of the same sex was given the name of the deceased infant. So when you look at some of the records in their genealogy, you find 3 children all named John and 2 named Mary all in the one family.

That is morbid, yet fascinating. It makes me wonder what those from that era might consider as morbid if they could peer into our 21st century ways.
